Fully integrated on and off ice professionally run programs all under one roof.

This is the evolution of hockey training.

rink-overview The Rink started with a need.

In a city with unlimited hockey potential and endless aspirations, available ice time was all but impossible to come by.

For Tyler and Brad Rice, creating another city rink wasn’t enough. Getting kids on the ice is great, but they wanted to ensure those kids’ development was maximized in the process.
  • They should feel the difference when they get home.
  • Their game should grow from the experience.
And that’s how The Rink came to be: Building a facility to maximize the effectiveness of hockey training. To compete at the top level, hockey training needs to incorporate a great deal more than skating lessons and shinny games - a full-service approach is required.

This is why all programs at The Rink incorporate:
  • On-ice skills training, such as power skating training and one-on-one skills training
  • Goalie/shooting training, with professional goalie programs and dedicated shooting rink
  • Off-ice conditioning, including strength and fitness training
It is the combination of these three disciplines in conjunction with The Rink facility that makes it all possible. It is our experienced team of hockey professionals that make it work.

GDI_logo_partnersGDI is a world-leader in the development of hockey goaltenders. The tools and techniques developed by GDI have revolutionized the way goalies play the game. Over the course of GDI's history, its reputation has grown due to their developers' exceptional knowledge of the goaltending position and the ability to consistently convey that knowledge to other coaches and goalies. The founder and president, Ian Clark, can be credited with establishing this unparalleled success.

GDI is a project of passion. Ian Clark has dedicated his life to honing the art of netminding and has developed the most comprehensive and effective skill development system on the market today. Ian Clark’s passion and dedication have resulted in the development of many of today's leading goaltenders in the junior, college and pro ranks.

Our Promise: GDI is revolutionizing the approach to goaltending. As the market’s quality transcenders, we are shattering the traditional, compartmentalized approaches to goaltending by offering a unified, synchronized approach to the position. We not only obsess over the quality of training, equipment and information; we obsess about how all those individual resources work together.

Ryan Cyr, Regional Manager GDI Prairies, has worked with GDI for more than nine years, studying under GDI founder/president Ian Clark. As the manager of the GDI Prairies region, Ryan organizes, supervises and coaches GDI training camps, helping up-and-coming goaltenders be their absolute best. Skate
There's a reason why Canadians are world hockey leaders: it's the little rinks on local ponds and in our backyards that are part of the secret ingredient. On small rinks skill plays a greater role than size and speed. On a full size rink skills are more important. Throw a kid, a stick, a puck and a defender out on a professional size rink and there's a lot of skating room. Keep away isn't that difficult. With a size and speed advantage it's pretty tough to lose the puck. But on a smaller ice surface Keep away is trickier because the size and speed advantage is reduced and puts the focus on skill. That’s the logic behind The Rink Training Centre’s smaller ice surface: about 2/3 the size of a professional surface. It forces players to develop the stick skills and control that helps make great players great.

That said, never underestimate the importance and effectiveness of sheer controlled speed. Anyone who has played at a high level will tell you that the difference between the pro and the almost pro lies in their skating ability. Our power skating program is just one more way The Rink Training Centre can help players make the most of their abilities.

Train
Hockey training needs to take place on and off the ice. This is evolution of hockey training and the true inspiration for The Rink. When you’re checking someone twice your size, when the season’s winding down, but you want it to go on, the time you dedicate to strength and fitness training will truly pay off. Strength, agility and endurance are the building blocks of great players. Whether or not you know the game inside out, whether or not you have the quickest hands in the business, if your conditioning is less than stellar you will get beat.

At The Rink Training Centre, you no longer need to hop off the ice, get changed and drive to your nearest gym because The Rink offers a 4,500 ft2 state of the indoor art gym/dryland training centre and a 11,500 ft2 outdoor dryland training zone. Our gym features a fully outfitted weight room with top of the line cardio and strength training equipment. Our cardio wokouts, strength training programs and conditioning drills are developed by Pro-Fitness Training™ specifically for hockey players. Their trainers are the best in the business, so you will get bigger, leaner and faster at The Rink.
Strength and fitness training are included with our on ice programs.
