Frequently Asked Questions

Consistent Camp Schedules

EDGE Skating Camps will run on a consistent day to day schedule allowing for parents to plan pick ups and drop offs effectively around camp times.

Small Player to Coach Ration

With group sizes being controlled, it will allow us to consistently deliever a small player to coach ratio to all camp levels. Allowing more direct feedback and interaction with each player.

Controlled Group Sizes

Our Intro/Development/Advanced/High Performance Groups will consist of 20 players (5:1 Player to Coach Ratio). Our Elite Camps will feature a maximum group sizes of 16 skaters (4:1 Player to Coach Ratio).

Multi-Sport Segment

EDGE Skating Camps have now added a multi-sport segment to each camp level. This allows athletes to develop and enhance motor skills in other sports that transfer to hockey.

Any changes to the RINK privacy policy will be promptly communicated.  Policy changes will not alter how we handle previously submitted personal information.

Serious injury, for the purpose of the RINK, means injury, or sickness, serious enough to prevent participation. Minor ailments like a cold will not result in a credit of any sort. The medical condition must prevent participation. All injury/sickness credit requests must be made formally by letter and accompanied by a formal letter from the attending doctor.

AT-CAMP INJURIES
The RINK does not provide refunds or credits for lost participation due to injury at camp. Athletes attending are expected to be in superior, athletic condition in order to mitigate this risk.
On a concluding note, the RINK would like attending athletes and families to understand the following predicament when formulating this strict policy.

The RINK camp structure is renowned around the Western Canada. Most camps accept as many registrations as possible. They want to maximize their revenue. At the RINK, we have a different approach. Our approach is to provide attending athletes with one of the most significant development experiences of their lives. To do this, we must have great integrity in the structure of our camp. Each progression has a fixed registration number and coach/athlete ratio. Each year we place many prospective registrants onto wait lists due to the demand of the program. Since we turn potential registrants away, to preserve the camp structure and ratios, we have no method of recovering lost revenue due to cancellations.
We believe that we have put together the premiere player-development experience in the world. This has been achieved, in part, through the integrity of our structure and programming.

We would ask that you do not register if you are not in agreement with this refund policy.

With the exception of the Mini Guns camp which is a 5 day am camp, all of the other Edge of Excellence camps are a 5 day full-day camp.

On the first day, each player will have their skating videotaped and their skating will be analyzed by our coaches and recorded.

Each day the player will get 2 1/2 hours ON ICE where they work on various skating techniques, and 2 hours of OFF-ICE.  The OFF-ICE session concentrates on resistance training, quick feet drills and core plyometrics, through a 1 hour session of simulated skating and video, and a 1 hour shooting and stick handling during the skills class.

Throughout the week, there will also be an ice sessions where the skaters will skate in front of a projection screen.  On the last day there will be a review and scrimmage game.

Camp schedules will be sent out via email two weeks prior to your camp starting. Please look for an email from info@therink.ca.

The Mini Guns camps are for players ages 5 & 6, born between January 1, 2015 and December 31, 2014.

The Edge of Excellence Camps Powered by the RINK are for players ages 7 to 17.  The groups will be divided according to years of birth and into groups of ages 8 & 9, 10 & 11, 12 to 14 and 15 to 17.

Yes, we can accommodate ringette players in the Edge of Excellence Power Skating Camps Powerered by the RINK.  The skating drills will be the same for hockey players as well as ringette players, however during the stick drills, the ringette players will be using a ring instead of a puck.

If you would like to sign up your ringette player for a Edge of Excellence Power Skating camp, please comment in the notes of the registration that she is a ringette player.

We limit each group to 20 players.  There is still a lot of individual attention between the players and instructors in the ON-ICE as well as the OFF-ICE sessions.

The Player to Coach ratio will be 5:1.

Yes, we will do our best to accommodate these kinds of requests.   The groups are assigned closer to the camp start date.

Full equipment will be worn for the On-Ice sessions.  Please ensure that the skates are sharp.  A 5/8” radius of hollow is recommended, which is a flatter hollow than the typical 3/8” sharpening.

We will be using pucks, so please make sure to bring a stick each day and if possible, bring an older second stick to be used for the Off-Ice stickhandling and shooting sessions.
